About the role#
Five Star Bank offers a summer program for students interested in governance, risk management, and compliance. You will work alongside professionals on projects related to BSA/AML, fraud, internal audit, and enterprise risk. This role provides exposure to risk frameworks and banking operations within a community bank setting.
What you'll do#
- Compliance: Assist with regulatory testing and monitoring. You will evaluate controls, document findings, and support risk assessments.
- Enterprise Risk: Help identify and monitor financial, operational, and regulatory risks through data analysis and third-party reviews.
- BSA/AML: Monitor financial transactions for suspicious activity and assist with the preparation of Suspicious Activity Reports.
- Fraud: Detect and investigate suspicious transactions while supporting fraud prevention strategies.
- Internal Audit: Evaluate internal controls and operational processes by participating in audit testing.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Business, Finance, Accounting, Law, or Cybersecurity. Junior-level standing or higher is preferred.
- Participation in at least one club, volunteer effort, or extracurricular activity for a minimum of one year.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- A collaborative mindset, attention to detail, and a desire to learn.
- Ability to demonstrate the standards and principles of the Five Star Bank experience, including teamwork and leading by example.
Location & details#
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Schedule: 40 hours per week starting in June.
- Modality: Hybrid work model.
- Locations: Rochester and Buffalo, New York.
- Travel: Occasional travel within the corporate footprint is required.
- Compensation: Paid position at $18 per hour.
