About the role#
The Undergraduate Collections Assistant supports the organization and study of museum collections. You will work with collection managers on projects involving research and specimen management. This position runs from January 6, 2027, to May 3, 2027, and offers an hourly wage of $11.
What you'll do#
- Reorganize archives and museum papers.
- Scan documents and populate databases.
- Plan and execute assigned projects.
- Interact with staff and visiting researchers.
- Manage collections by organizing materials, numbering specimens, and sorting items.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate program in a related field, such as biology, ecology, environmental sciences, anthropology, history, or museum studies.
- Qualification or pre-approval for the Federal Work Study program.
- Ability to work 15 hours per week during the term.
- Capability to lift up to 50lbs and use a ladder.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and follow directions.
- Completion of Pennsylvania Act 153 clearances upon hiring.
- Experience with collection work, laboratory practices, or document scanning is helpful. Familiarity with Microsoft Access or developing finding aids is a plus.

- This is an on-site position located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
- The role is part-time and requires a commitment of 15 hours per week.
