About the role#
This is a summer internship role based in Sherwood Park, Alberta. You will support the advancement of new traits for local and global programs. This position is full-time for a duration of 4 to 6 months during the summer of 2027. Please note that students are hired and employed through a third-party contracting agency.
What you'll do#
You will manage field activities from seeding through harvest. Your daily responsibilities include:
- Setting up seeds and preparing land.
- Managing pollination, pest control, and plot maintenance.
- Harvesting crops.
- Supervising casual employees as needed.
- Ensuring all work follows standard operating procedures.
- Monitoring trial site isolation areas and post-harvest sites for compliance.
- Scouting fields for prohibited species.
- Maintaining site standards through spraying, tilling, burning, hand roguing, and mowing.
What you'll need#
- Strong agronomic competence gained through a degree in Agriculture or a related field.
- Previous experience within the agriculture industry.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt plans as situations change.
- An interest in canola development.
- A focus on delivering results for both individual and team goals.
- Comfort with traveling for extended periods, including driving on highway and grid roads.
