About the role#
Barr Engineering Co. is seeking a student for a full-time internship in Water Resources Engineering. This role is based in Minneapolis and runs for approximately three months during the winter of 2027. You will work on project teams focused on civil engineering, hydraulic and hydrologic design, and related technical activities. This position is hybrid, allowing you to split time between the office and home. You must be willing to travel and adjust your schedule to meet project deadlines.
What you'll do#
- Perform engineering computations for area, volume, and discharge rates.
- Conduct technical analysis using spreadsheets and GIS-based data.
- Prepare input data for hydraulic and hydrologic models.
- Assist with the design of structures.
- Draft and design using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
- Perform field data collection, site surveys, mapping, and construction observation.
- Write technical reports.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil or environmental engineering or a related field.
- Completion of or enrollment in relevant coursework such as engineering hydrology, applied hydrology, water resource engineering, or open channel hydraulics.
- At least one full-time semester of coursework remaining after the internship concludes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.
- A current, valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and Civil 3D is preferred.
- Previous engineering, field, or geotechnical experience is a plus.
- A GPA of 3.2/4.0 or higher is preferred.
- Completion of at least one semester of upper-division engineering coursework is preferred.
