About the role#
Barr is looking for an engineering student to join our project teams for a Winter 2027 internship. You will support civil engineering, hydraulic, and hydrologic design projects. This role involves a mix of office-based technical analysis and field work. We operate with a hybrid work model based out of our Bismarck office.
What you'll do#
- Perform engineering computations for area, volume, and discharge rates.
- Conduct technical analysis using spreadsheets and GIS data.
- Prepare input data for hydraulic and hydrologic models.
- Assist with the design of structures and mapping.
- Perform technical writing and documentation.
- Conduct site surveys and construction observation.
- Use AutoCAD and Civil 3D for drafting and design.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients to meet project goals.
- Travel to project sites, including locations with rough terrain or industrial conditions.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a bachelor’s or master’s program for civil or environmental engineering.
- Completion of or current enrollment in relevant coursework like engineering hydrology, applied hydrology, or open channel hydraulics.
- At least one full-time semester of coursework remaining after the internship concludes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office software.
- A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Ability to work full-time for approximately three months.
It is helpful if you have a GPA of 3.2 or higher, previous engineering or field experience, and familiarity with AutoCAD or Civil 3D.
