    About the role#

    Barr is looking for a geotechnical engineering intern to join our team of over 90 geotechnical engineers and geologists. In this role, you will work with multidisciplinary project teams to provide technical expertise and support for the Engineering and Design business unit. You will gain hands-on experience through a mix of computer modeling and field work. This position requires someone who can work independently and as part of a team, while maintaining a focus on client service and project deadlines.

    What you'll do#

    • Provide on-site support for construction observation, material testing, and subsurface investigations.
    • Perform geotechnical field investigations, including collecting samples and field logging of exploratory test borings.
    • Perform basic engineering calculations and analysis, assist in design development, and prepare drawings, specifications, and sketches.
    • Monitor construction projects to ensure quality and compliance.
    • Assist with planning, coordinating, and executing projects to ensure all milestones are met.
    • Collaborate with team members and clients to align technical work with project objectives.

    What you'll need#

    • Ongoing enrollment in an ABET-accredited geotechnical engineering, geological engineering, or civil degree program.
    • Completion of at least two semesters of physics and three semesters of mathematics.
    • At least one full-time semester of coursework remaining after the internship concludes.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office software.
    • A current, valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
    • Ability to rent a vehicle for out-of-town assignments.
    • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

    Location & details#

    • This is a full-time, paid internship scheduled for approximately six months starting in the summer of 2027.
    • The role is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with a hybrid work arrangement available.
    • You must be willing to travel and occasionally adjust your schedule to meet project needs.
    • You will be expected to work in environments that may include rough terrain, moving machinery, and industrial conditions.
