Estimating Intern

About the role#

The Estimating Intern will report to the Estimating Manager to assist in delivering accurate and timely cost estimates, budgets, and schedules for assigned projects. This role provides hands-on experience in estimating and project controls within a construction environment.

What you'll do#

• Search and accumulate historical estimate data and work with the integration team to develop benchmarking data.
• Analyze documents, specifications, proposals, and addendums in preparation for pricing.
• Support the team in preparing quantity take-offs from construction drawings.
• Research and obtain pricing from suppliers and subcontractors for project estimates.
• Assist with RFPs, general contract tender submissions, prequalification submissions, RFQs, and RFIs.
• Aid in creating estimates for bid submissions, including labor, equipment, material, rentals, and subcontracts.
• Collect data for reports on key performance indicators and maintain project files and correspondence.
• Provide technical support to field staff and coordinate scope changes as required.
• Maintain estimating data systems and ensure proper distribution of documentation upon project award.

What you'll need#

• Currently enrolled in or recently completed a diploma or degree program in Civil, Construction, or Electrical Engineering, or Business Administration.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and contract documents.
• Strong computer skills, specifically in MS Excel, Word, Project, and estimating software.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure.
• Capability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of contract language, terms and conditions, bonding, job cost fundamentals, and basic accounting principles is considered an asset.
