Civil engineering internships on Intern Insider already include summer 2027 seats in structural design, transportation, water resources, geotechnical work, and construction. When this guide was written, the civil engineering field page listed 4,936 open internships for civil engineering students from 928 companies, and 423 of them were added this week.
That page is the wider set: internships open to civil engineering students, including titles that are not civil engineer. The civil and structural roles page groups jobs by the work. It listed 2,184 open internships from 460 companies, and 186 were added this week. A posting can appear on one page and not the other, so check both. The posting you apply through is the final word on its own terms.

Licensure#
No listing linked in this guide asks for a Professional Engineer license. The Jacobs rail listing prefers EIT certification and does not spell the abbreviation out. NCEES describes the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam as generally the first step toward becoming a licensed professional engineer, for recent graduates and students close to finishing an undergraduate degree from an EAC/ABET-accredited program. EAC is the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. State and provincial boards set the title you receive after the exam, so confirm the rule where you plan to work. The other forms linked here do not ask for the exam.
How and when to apply for summer 2027#
Summer 2027 civil roles are already posted. The Summer 2027 internships page listed 19,693 open internships from 2,782 companies when this guide was written. That count is every field, not civil engineering alone. The Winter 2027 internships page listed 5,691 from 1,443 companies. Hatch, the Burns & McDonnell civil listing, and the HDR water resources listing use a rolling term, so those seats are not tied to one season on the page.
Intern Insider shows an apply-by date on each listing in this guide. The date is on the listing page. Read the posting again on the day you apply. In our analysis of when internship postings really close, about a third of postings are already gone by the time their own stated deadline arrives. The summer 2027 application timeline shows when employer waves tend to open.
Check citizenship, sponsorship, class year, and GPA on the posting before you apply, and put the software and coursework that posting names near the top of the resume. The tech internship resume guide and the university internship resume guide cover the bullets. Neighboring field guides are mechanical engineering internships and electrical engineering internships.
Recheck the civil engineering roles page on the day you apply. To compare this field with the rest of the board, browse all open internships.
