About the role#
Kiewit Power Engineering is seeking a Civil Engineer Intern for our Lenexa, Kansas office for the Summer 2027 term. This is a full-time, paid internship where you will contribute to project success by applying engineering standards and tools to real-world infrastructure projects. You will work alongside our design teams to help develop, maintain, and improve our engineering procedures.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the evaluation and application of engineering techniques for site development projects.
- Perform design tasks for assigned systems, including analysis, calculations, research, and layout work.
- Review drawings and documents for conformance with departmental standards and engineering codes.
- Collaborate with civil designers to ensure quality procedures are followed.
- Coordinate design efforts with project personnel across various disciplines and departments.
- Use civil engineering software and computer-aided drafting tools.
- Work with construction partners to support project goals.
- Provide recommendations on designs, processes, and standards.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program for Civil Engineering at an ABET accredited university.
- A GPA above 3.0 is preferred.
- Ability to interpret multi-discipline engineering and vendor documents.
- Proficiency with basic spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with team members, contractors, and vendors.
- Ability to perform work safely and follow oral or written instructions.
- Commitment to regular, reliable attendance and meeting project deadlines.
