About the role#
Xcel Energy is seeking a Reliability Data Analyst Intern to support the Electric Distribution System Performance (EDSP) team in Colorado. This paid internship provides hands-on experience in applying data analytics to utility operations, specifically regarding reliability metrics, outage data, and system performance. You will work alongside engineers and analysts to transform large datasets into insights that inform operational decision-making.
What you'll do#
- Analyze distribution system performance data to identify trends and insights.
- Develop and maintain dashboards and reports using Excel, Power BI, and Databricks.
- Support data validation, cleansing, and preparation across multiple sources.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to support data-driven decisions.
- Perform ad-hoc analysis and reporting to support EDSP initiatives.
- Document analytical methods and present findings to team members.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a sophomore or higher in an accredited college, university, or community college with plans to transfer.
- Pursuing a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Ability to work full-time during the summer and part-time during the school year.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and data visualization.
- Familiarity with Power BI or similar visualization tools.
- Basic knowledge of SQL, Python, or other analytics tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- An interest in electric utility operations, infrastructure, or the energy industry.
