About the role#
This internship at GALLO offers the chance to apply geospatial data science to wine grape production. You will work with experts in Winegrowing Research to support projects that improve yield, fruit quality, and overall vineyard management. This role is based in Modesto, California, and requires full-time, on-site attendance.
What you'll do#
- Process and analyze geospatial data using satellite and drone imagery, soil maps, climate information, and ground observations.
- Use Python, R, and cloud computing to automate spatial data processing.
- Contribute to machine learning projects focused on crop health monitoring, disease detection, yield prediction, and vine water status.
- Develop accurate, high-quality spatial databases.
- Apply GIS and remote sensing solutions to help refine vineyard management practices.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or completion of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Agricultural Sciences, Life Science, or Natural Resources.
- Strong technical and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when the schedule requires.
- Availability for the full six-month duration from June through December 2027.

- Term: Summer and Fall 2027 (6 months).
- Modality: On-site (no telecommuting).
- Status: Paid, full-time internship.
