About the role#
This six-month internship runs from July through December 2027. You will work alongside experienced professionals to gain technical training in winemaking, research winemaking, spirits distillation, or enology research. Depending on your placement, you will contribute to commercial-scale production, small-lot research, or specific enology projects. You will also develop an individual project to present to management at the end of the term.
What you'll do#
- Monitor fermentations and support grape receiving and processing.
- Conduct bench, pilot, and plant scale experiments.
- Perform fining, blending, and other winemaking trials.
- Manage bench-scale trials to address production issues.
- Collect and document data, evaluate process improvements, and contribute to technical reports.
- Participate in sensory evaluations and wine or spirits tastings.
- Facilitate the scale-up of research advancements in winemaking processes.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in or completion of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, or Engineering.
- Minimum age of 21.
- Valid driver’s license, safe driving record, and reliable vehicle.
- Ability to lift and move up to 40 lbs and work at heights of 50 feet.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
- Strong applied technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Junior or Senior class standing is preferred.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, on-site position based in Modesto, Fresno, Livingston, or Healdsburg, California.
- You must be available for the entire duration of the program.
- Travel to varying winery locations is required up to 10% of the time.
- Compensation is $24.00 to $28.00 per hour.
