About the role#
Xcel Energy is hiring an intern for our System Planning Modeling and Analytics organization in Denver. You will join the Electric Distribution Modeling and Analytics team to help develop and maintain electrical circuit models. This role supports utility goals like electrification, grid modernization, and reliability by improving data quality, model accuracy, and automation. You will gain hands-on experience, collaborate with internal stakeholders, and present your work to senior leadership.
What you'll do#
- Participate in the validation and analysis of SCADA measurement data.
- Contribute to utility planning activities.
- Perform power systems modeling, hosting capacity analysis, and time series data analysis.
- Gain an understanding of critical utility systems including GIS, EMS, and CIS.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Junior or higher as of Fall 2027 in an ABET accredited college or university.
- Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Data Science.
- Ability to commute to the Denver office for hybrid work.
- Availability to work full-time (up to 40 hours per week) during the summer and part-time (up to 20 hours per week) during the school year.
- Preferred: A 3.0 GPA or higher.
- Preferred: Experience with Python or data analysis tools.
- Preferred: Completion of at least one circuits course.

- Compensation: This is a paid internship with an anticipated hourly pay of $21.20 to $23.20.
