About the role#
As a Data Analyst Intern at Xcel Energy, you will support the data analytics team in transforming complex utility data into insights that drive operational efficiency and improve grid reliability. You will work with large datasets related to energy usage, customer behavior, and outage management. This is a paid, full-time summer 2027 internship based in Amarillo, Texas, operating on a hybrid schedule.
What you'll do#
- Develop and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards and reports to visualize energy consumption trends and key performance indicators.
- Perform exploratory data analysis and statistical modeling to identify patterns in customer usage or support predictive maintenance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, clean data, and deliver analytical solutions.
- Assist in ad-hoc reporting, data quality validation, and the automation of routine analytics processes.
- Document analytical findings, create presentations, and communicate insights during team meetings.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Junior or higher as of Fall 2027 at an ABET accredited college or university.
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Science, Business Analytics, Applied Mathematics, Information Systems, or Management Information Systems.
- Ability to work full-time (up to 40 hours per week) during the summer and commute to the Amarillo office.
- Strong proficiency in Power BI and experience or coursework involving Databricks.
- Attention to detail with the ability to handle large, messy datasets.
- Communication skills to translate technical findings into clear business recommendations.
- Familiarity with the energy industry, statistics, machine learning basics, or GIS tools is helpful.
