About the role#
WellSpan Health offers a paid Nurse Externship during the winter break for the Emergency Department and Med/Surg Units at Gettysburg Hospital. This role provides at least 48 hours of clinical experience under the guidance of an experienced RN preceptor. You will work full-time or part-time hours with varied shifts.
What you'll do#
- Provide general nursing and personal care assistance, including bathing, dressing, and positioning patients.
- Monitor patient conditions and report any changes to the appropriate staff.
- Obtain and document patient vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, weight, respiration, pulse, and pain levels.
- Assist with patient preparation and transportation for tests or procedures.
- Perform selected clinical procedures once competency is demonstrated through a formal Nurse Extern Program.
- Conduct EKGs and point-of-care testing, including blood glucose and hemoccult tests.
- Maintain par levels of supplies and equipment on assigned units and ensure rooms are properly stocked.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in an approved Nursing program with at least two completed clinical semesters.
- Completion of a medical-surgical clinical rotation.
- Basic Life Support certification upon hire.
- Completion of a formal Nurse Extern Program upon hire.
