About the role#
The Winter Nurse Extern Program offers senior nursing students at least 72 hours of paid clinical experience during the winter break. You will work alongside an experienced RN preceptor to gain hands-on skills in a clinical setting. Opportunities are available in areas including Med/Surg, the OR, Critical Care units, and Maternity. This is a full-time, on-site program.
What you'll do#
- Provide general nursing and personal care, including bathing, dressing, positioning, and assisting with meals.
- Support registered nurses by gathering information for patient care and discharge planning.
- Monitor patient conditions and report changes to the appropriate staff.
- Obtain and document vital signs, such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration.
- Perform selected procedures, EKGs, and point-of-care testing.
- Assist with the preparation and transport of patients for tests or procedures.
- Manage unit supplies by stocking patient rooms, nursing areas, and supply carts to maintain required levels.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an approved nursing program with at least two clinical semesters completed.
- Completion of at least one medical-surgical clinical rotation by the start date.
- Basic Life Support certification upon hire.
- Enrollment in an accredited BSN program is preferred.
