About the role#
This paid Nurse Externship offers a hands-on clinical experience at WellSpan York Hospital. You will work alongside an experienced RN preceptor in a 1:1 mentorship model. The program includes two 4-week unit rotations within Adult Psychiatric Inpatient and 5 East Medical Surgical and Psychiatric units. This is a full-time, on-site role for the summer of 2027.
What you'll do#
- Provide general nursing and personal care assistance to patients.
- Collect and document vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
- Assist with patient preparation and transportation for tests or procedures.
- Monitor patient conditions and report changes to the nursing team.
- Perform specific clinical tasks like EKGs and Point-of-Care testing.
- Support unit operations by maintaining supply levels and setting up equipment.
- Assist RNs with care coordination and discharge planning.
- Participate in educational programs and unit meetings.
- Assess and interpret age-specific patient data to provide appropriate treatment.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an approved Nursing program with at least two completed clinical semesters.
- Completion of at least one medical-surgical clinical rotation.
- Must be in good academic and behavioral standing.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire.
- Enrollment in an accredited BSN program is preferred.
- Application must include a resume, transcript, and a letter of recommendation from a current nursing instructor.
Location & details#
- Location: York, Pennsylvania.
- Program dates: May 17, 2027, to July 10, 2027.
- Commitment: 36 hours per week with rotating shifts based on your preceptor's schedule.
