About the role#
This is a full-time, paid Nurse Externship for Summer 2027 at Evangelical Community Hospital. The program runs from May 17, 2027, to July 10, 2027. You will work 36 hours per week on rotating shifts, matched 1:1 with an experienced RN preceptor. You will complete two 4-week unit experiences in areas such as Orthopedics, Med-Surg, the Emergency Department, the Critical Care or Intermediate Care Units, or Surgical Services.
What you'll do#
- Provide general nursing and personal care to patients, including assistance with hygiene, positioning, and mobility.
- Support registered nurses with patient care coordination and discharge planning.
- Monitor patient conditions and report changes to the nursing team.
- Obtain and document vital signs, perform EKGs, and conduct Point-of-Care testing.
- Prepare and transport patients for tests and procedures.
- Manage unit supplies by stocking rooms and maintaining equipment par levels.
- Respond to light calls and assist with unit errands.
- Interpret patient age-specific data to provide appropriate care.
- Follow safety, infection control, and hospital policies.
- Attend educational programs and inservice meetings.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an approved Nursing program with at least two completed clinical semesters.
- Completion of at least one medical-surgical clinical rotation prior to the start date.
- Must be in good standing and passing your nursing program.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Basic Life Support certification upon hire.
- Enrollment in an accredited BSN program is preferred.
- Preference is given to students entering their final semester or year of study.
