About the role#
The Summer 2027 Nurse Externship at Philhaven Hospital offers a paid clinical experience for nursing students. Participants work 36 hours per week on rotating shifts, paired with an experienced RN preceptor. The program runs from May 17, 2027, to July 10, 2027, and includes two 4-week unit experiences across Adult Inpatient, Child Adolescent Inpatient, and Extended Acute Inpatient areas.
What you'll do#
- Provide general nursing and personal care assistance, including bathing, dressing, and positioning.
- Assist registered nurses with care coordination and discharge planning.
- Monitor patient conditions, obtain vital signs, and report any changes.
- Perform specific clinical procedures, EKGs, and Point-of-Care testing.
- Prepare and transport patients for tests and procedures.
- Manage unit supplies, maintain par levels, and ensure equipment is functioning properly.
- Respond to light calls and run special errands.
- Assess patient age-specific data to provide appropriate treatment.
- Participate in educational programs and maintain safety and infection control standards.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an approved nursing program with at least two clinical semesters completed.
- Completion of a medical-surgical clinical rotation.
- Must be passing in an accredited program and maintain good standing.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Basic Life Support certification upon hire.
- Enrollment in an accredited BSN program is preferred.
- Application materials must include a resume, transcript, and a letter of recommendation from a current nursing instructor.
