About the role#
The Summer 2027 Nurse Externship at Good Samaritan Hospital provides a paid clinical experience for nursing students. You will work alongside an experienced RN preceptor to gain hands-on knowledge in various hospital units, including Medical/Surgical, Emergency, ICU, Operating Room, Maternity, and Acute Rehab. The program runs from May 17, 2027, to July 10, 2027, and consists of two 4-week unit experiences.
What you'll do#
- Provide general nursing and personal care assistance to patients.
- Assist the registered nurse with care coordination and discharge planning.
- Monitor patient conditions and report changes to the care team.
- Document vital signs and perform selected procedures per the Nurse Extern checklist.
- Conduct EKGs and Point-of-Care testing.
- Prepare and transport patients for tests and procedures.
- Manage unit supplies, equipment, and stock levels.
- Respond to patient light calls and run errands as needed.
- Participate in educational programs and maintain established safety and infection control standards.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in an approved Nursing program with at least two completed clinical semesters.
- Completion of at least one medical-surgical clinical rotation prior to the start date.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Basic Life Support certification upon hire.
- Must be passing in your accredited program.
- A letter of recommendation from a current nursing instructor covering your academic and behavior standing, plus confirmation of your medical-surgical rotation completion.
- Enrollment in an accredited BSN program is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Lebanon, Pennsylvania.
- Commitment: Full-time, 36 hours per week.
- Schedule: Rotating shifts based on preceptor availability.
