About the role#
The Winter Nurse Extern Program offers senior nursing students at least 72 hours of paid clinical experience during the winter break. You will work 1:1 with an experienced RN preceptor in either the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit or the Surgical Rotation area, which includes pre-op, PACU, and post-surgical care. This is a full-time, on-site opportunity.
What you'll do#
- Provide direct patient care including bathing, dressing, feeding, and positioning.
- Assist in preparing and transporting patients for tests and procedures.
- Monitor patient conditions and report any changes to the care team.
- Obtain and document vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and temperature.
- Perform specific clinical tasks like EKGs and point-of-care testing.
- Maintain supply levels on your assigned unit and notify supervisors when reorder points are reached.
- Support the nursing team with discharge planning information and general unit errands.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an approved nursing program with at least two clinical semesters completed.
- Completion of at least one medical-surgical clinical rotation.
- Must be passing in your program.
- Basic Life Support certification upon hire.
- Enrollment in an accredited BSN program is preferred.
