The WELL on the campus of Sacramento State is currently seeking to hire one Event Services Specialist. The Event Services Specialist serves as the on-site Event Services Staff Lead for assigned special events and athletic events. This position is responsible for overseeing event execution, on-site student staff supervision, responding to client and guest needs, addressing operational issues, and ensuring events are conducted safely and in accordance with facility policies and established event plans. The Specialist provides seasonal operational coverage for Hornet Pavilion events, football game days, and other major events. Internal candidate only, external candidates will not be considered.
Conditions of Employment This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student and non-student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause. Prerequisites Students working at the University Union or The WELL must be attending classes at Sacramento State during the regular term (Fall, Spring), and enrolled in a minimum of nine (9) semester units for undergraduate students or six (6) semester units for graduate students. Majors/Fields of Study Any Major Work Schedule Work schedules are based on operational needs and seasonal event schedules. Hours are not guaranteed and will vary throughout the year, with most of the work occurring during evenings, weekends, holidays, and athletic seasons. Additional Work Schedule Casual employees are limited to no more than 19.5 hours per work week (Sunday – Saturday). Compensation $20.00 per hour Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in event or facility operations, athletics, hospitality, venue management, customer service, or related field.Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people and communicate professionally with guests, staff, and clients.Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on event needs.Ability to safely lift and move event equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and perform physically active work involving prolonged standing and walking.Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.Ability to lead by example and collaborate effectively with student employees and professional staff in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines.Ability to exercise sound judgment, work independently with minimal supervision, and maintain professionalism under pressure.Basic computer proficiency with email, word-processing, and spreadsheet applications.Knowledge of safe work practices, proper lifting techniques, and event equipment handling.Ability to lead by example and work collaboratively with student employees and professional staff. Preferred Qualifications CPR/AED and First Aid certification.Experience supporting collegiate athletics, arenas, convention centers, theaters, or event venues.Experience supervising or mentoring part-time or student employees.Experience with event setup, venue conversions, staging, audiovisual equipment, or facility operations.Experience with EMS scheduling software or other event management systems. Physical Requirements Frequently stand and walk for extended periods; lift and move up to 50 pounds; climb ladders; bend, kneel, crouch, stoop, and safely operate hand tools and event equipment; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers and scanners with or without a reasonable accommodation. Working Conditions Work is performed in indoor and surrounding outdoor spaces of The WELL and University Union facilities, including Hornet Pavilion, Union Ballroom, conference and event spaces, and a fitness center environment. Work may involve exposure to varying temperatures, weather conditions, noise levels, and large public gatherings. Continuous contact with staff, students, clients, vendors, and the public.
