    About the role#

    University Enterprises, Inc. is hiring an Engineering Student Assistant to work in a learning capacity with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). You will support the Headquarters Office of Innovative Design and Delivery within the Division of Design. This position operates under the supervision of a Senior Transportation Engineer to assist with engineering projects, data management, and research.

    What you'll do#

    • Review project engineering reports and assist with engineering assignments for the alternative project delivery program.
    • Collect, enter, analyze, and verify project data.
    • Produce reports, tables, charts, graphs, and presentation materials.
    • Research and compile engineering data for office programs.
    • Maintain project tracking spreadsheets and databases.
    • Support data quality control, project status tracking, and records management.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as a college student in Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
    • Minimum enrollment of six-semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduates, or four-semester units or six quarter units for graduate students.
    • Minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, Outlook, and Word, including advanced functions.
    • Experience with database software and data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI.
    • Ability to create clear, understandable charts and graphs.
    • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills with high attention to detail.
    • Ability to operate standard office equipment and learn new software and workflows.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Sacramento, California.
    • Work Modality: Hybrid.
    • Schedule: Flexible hours between 8 AM and 5 PM, Monday through Friday. Generally up to 24 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during academic breaks.
    • Compensation: $18.28 to $28.16 per hour.
    • Status: Part-time, temporary, non-benefited position. You must reside and perform all work within the state of California.
