About the role#
BWXT is seeking an Additive Manufacturing Intern to join our Advanced Technologies group in Lynchburg for the summer of 2027. You will work on nuclear development projects, focusing on novel manufacturing techniques for ceramics and metals. This role involves working with direct and indirect additive manufacturing technologies, including electron beam, laser, and lithography-based systems.
What you'll do#
- Take ownership of an additive manufacturing development program.
- Generate and improve standard operating procedures.
- Perform a safety analysis of the technology.
- Develop and execute a plan to mature the selected additive technology.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled as a student pursuing a bachelor's, master's, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or a related technical field.
- U.S. Citizenship.
- Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks.
- An enthusiastic attitude for learning new technologies and tackling challenges.
- Experience or exposure to processing and microstructure characterization of ceramic, metal, or composite materials.
- Experience in metal, plastic, or ceramic additive manufacturing.
- Experience in polymer formulation and thermal or photoinitiation.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship located on-site in Lynchburg, Virginia.
- The term for this position is Summer 2027.
