About the role#
As a Health Physics Intern, you will work under the guidance of mentors to learn basic Health Physics and Radiation Control principles. You will gain experience in analytical methodologies and contribute to site operations. This role lasts 10 to 12 weeks during the summer of 2027 and includes an opportunity to present your completed work to the leadership team.
What you'll do#
- Review and update Radiation Protection Technical Work Records.
- Develop requirements for Radiation Work Permits.
- Maintain personnel radiation exposure records.
- Participate in audits of radiologically controlled areas.
- Engage in day-to-day operations, including change management and safety analyses.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a B.S. or M.S. degree program in Physics, Biology, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Engineering.
- Coursework in Health Physics, biology, or physics is preferred.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q clearance.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid, on-site internship located in Lynchburg, Virginia.
- The pay rate is $29.50 per hour.
- A housing stipend is available for interns whose home of record is more than 50 miles from the Lynchburg site.
