About the role#
The Nurse Extern in Orthopedics works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or Clinical Manager. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide patient care in a hospital setting. This role requires adherence to established policies and safety procedures while assisting licensed personnel with direct patient care tasks.
What you'll do#
- Provide nursing care including hygiene, mobility assistance, and feeding.
- Measure and record vital signs, oxygenation levels, and intake and output.
- Obtain patient weights using various scales.
- Report patient pain complaints and changes in condition to an RN.
- Assist with bathing, oral care, and shampooing.
- Monitor skin integrity and ensure patients receive frequent position changes.
- Measure and apply anti-embolism stockings, sequential-compression devices, and Buck’s traction.
- Follow the SKIN bundle protocol and implement fall prevention interventions.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Current enrollment in an accredited registered nursing program with at least one completed clinical rotation.
- Active CPR certification.
- Ability to work variable shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to perform lifting and transferring using proper body mechanics.
- Basic computer skills.
- Previous hospital or health care experience and knowledge of the hospital environment are preferred.
