About the role#
The Nurse Extern position at Raleigh General Hospital provides nursing students with hands-on experience in a hospital setting. You will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to assist with patient care and unit operations while continuing your nursing education.
What you'll do#
- Perform clinical and technical skills as defined by hospital policy.
- Maintain patient and hospital confidentiality.
- Respond to patient requests and call lights promptly.
- Assist with room maintenance, including tidying, changing linens, and stocking supplies.
- Set up oxygen flow meters, humidifiers, and nasal cannulas.
- Transport patients to various areas of the hospital.
- Perform courier duties to the lab and other departments.
- Answer phones and greet visitors and patients.
- Apply knowledge of age-related factors to patient care.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in the first year of an Associate Degree Nursing Program or completion of two years of a Baccalaureate Nursing Program.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Strong critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
- BLS certification, which must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
