About the role#
As a Nurse Extern in our Med Surg department, you will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or Clinical Manager. You will assist licensed personnel by providing direct patient care, maintaining a safe environment, and ensuring patients receive consistent support during their stay. This role requires flexibility and the ability to organize your workload to provide quality care.
What you'll do#
- Provide nursing care and assist with daily living activities like hygiene, mobility, and feeding.
- Measure and record vital signs, intake and output, and oxygen levels.
- Obtain patient weights using various scales.
- Report changes in patient condition, such as level of consciousness or vital signs, to an RN.
- Observe skin integrity and help with position changes to prevent breakdown.
- Apply and remove medical equipment like anti-embolism stockings, sequential-compression devices, and Buck's traction.
- Implement fall prevention interventions as directed by an RN.
- Provide care according to the SKIN bundle.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Current enrollment in an accredited registered nursing program.
- Completion of your first clinical rotation.
- Active CPR certification.
- Ability to work variable shifts, including holidays and weekends.
- Capacity to perform physical duties like lifting and transferring patients using proper body mechanics.
- Basic computer skills.
