About the role#
The Student Nurse Externship at Grady Health System offers nursing students the chance to gain practical experience under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse. This role involves working with patients across all age groups, from neonatal to geriatric. Externs contribute to patient care while developing their clinical skills and professional practice.
What you'll do#
- Provide care that is age-appropriate and sensitive to cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
- Assist professional nurses with direct and indirect nursing activities.
- Educate patients and their families about healthy practices and treatment options.
- Use the nursing process to support assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Maintain a safe environment and ensure continuity of care for patients.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in an ADN, ASN, BSN, or MSN nursing program with at least one full academic year remaining.
- Completion of a nursing fundamentals course from an NLN accredited program.
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, with an unofficial transcript required at the time of application.
- Two letters of recommendation from a clinical manager or professor.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
