About the role#
The Nurse Externship at Mercy is a paid winter experience for nursing students. You will work approximately 24 hours per week, typically consisting of two 12-hour shifts. This program allows you to rotate through various units to gain exposure to different patient populations and specialty areas while working alongside experienced nurses.
What you'll do#
- Participate in clinical work under the direction of an RN.
- Assist in the individualized care of patients to support their wellness.
- Perform designated clinical procedures and nonclinical support tasks within the scope of a nurse extern.
- Work cooperatively with others as part of the healthcare team.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an approved registered nurse or practical nurse school of nursing.
- Completion of at least 2 semesters of nursing school.
- Completion of a minimum of one round of clinicals by the start of the externship.
