About the role#
The Respiratory Therapist Student Extern provides respiratory care to non-critical patients across all age groups. This role involves applying clinical judgment to implement respiratory programs and maintaining professional practice standards within the clinical setting. The extern communicates patient information and recommendations to physicians and nursing staff.
What you'll do#
- Provide high-quality care to assigned patients.
- Maintain compliance with hospital policies, safety regulations, and The Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals.
- Ensure a safe work environment by identifying hazards, participating in safety education, and reporting issues or malfunctioning equipment.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and stocked.
- Contribute to department quality and performance improvement initiatives.
- Apply knowledge of Evidence Based Medicine and Core Measures patient care standards.
- Support the professional business operations of the department.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a respiratory care education program, specifically within the clinical portion, or graduation from an approved program with an active application for Texas Medical Board licensure.
- Eligibility for National Board of Respiratory Care credentialing as a Certified Respiratory Therapist or Registered Respiratory Therapist.
- Current BLS Certification for Healthcare.
- Fluent English speaking and writing skills.
