About the role#
As a Transportation Student, you will join a team of experienced highway designers to develop your skills in identifying deficiencies, evaluating improvement alternatives, and selecting preferred designs. You will work on projects involving major provincial highways, interchanges, and local municipal roads.
What you'll do#
- Plan and design major provincial highways, interchanges, and local municipal roads.
- Review relevant policies and perform technical analysis.
- Write technical reports and prepare presentations for clients.
- Conduct site investigations to understand existing conditions and constraints.
- Develop alignments, profiles, typical cross-sections, and grading cross-sections.
- Perform roadside safety and roadway drainage design.
- Handle quantity calculations, cost estimating, and preparation of contract documents.
- Present information to the public.
- Assist with project scheduling, coordinating multi-discipline teams, and preparing proposals or marketing materials.
What you'll need#
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- 0-2 years of relevant transportation engineering experience, including co-op terms.
- Working knowledge of roadway and highway design guides like the TAC Geometric Design Guide.
- Familiarity with design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and InRoads/OpenRoads.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Initiative to coordinate effectively with team members.
- Previous summer work-term or co-op experience is an asset.
Location & details#
- This is a part-time, on-site position based in London, Ontario.
- The role is paid and follows a rolling term.
- Work involves a typical office environment with some field work that may include exposure to inclement weather.
