About the role#
This is a full-time, paid Electrical Engineering Co-op/Intern position based in Glen Allen, Virginia. You will join the Buildings, Government Services team for the Winter 2027 term. You will work under the direct supervision of an experienced Electrical Engineer to develop technical skills and contribute to project designs. The role requires 40 hours of work per week, primarily in an office setting, with some potential for field work.
What you'll do#
- Work with Building Electrical Engineers to prepare contract drawings, calculations, specifications, schedules, and details from conceptual design to construction documents.
- Assist in the development of electrical system plans including lighting, power distribution, energy efficiency, and fire alarm systems for government facilities.
- Facilitate and ensure the quality of project deliverables.
- Follow department production guidelines and project standards.
- Apply fundamental engineering principles to solve real-world problems.
- Coordinate with cross-discipline professionals on assigned projects.
- Support team operations and promote a culture of health and safety.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and PDF editing software like Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam.
- A working knowledge of basic electrical engineering principles and calculations.
- Ability to learn and develop a working knowledge of Revit.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
- Strong work ethic and a commitment to a culture of safety.
- Ability to work under and meet tight deadlines.
