About the role#
As a Fire Protection Engineering Intern, you will join our team for the Summer 2027 term. You will work on finite tasks under the guidance of experienced engineers to help protect lives and property through the design of fire protection systems. This role is based on-site in Houston, Texas.
What you'll do#
- Apply fire protection engineering concepts through investigation and analysis.
- Perform basic calculations to analyze and design system components.
- Conduct building, fire, and life safety code research.
- Create layouts of fire protection systems using REVIT or AutoCAD.
- Assist the team in preparing designs, drawings, specifications, reports, and presentations.
- Perform field surveys and fire hydrant flow testing.
- Gather information to support design decisions.
- Collaborate with architecture and engineering design professionals.
- Assist with support services during construction, including submittal reviews and progress inspections.
- Complete other duties as assigned by senior engineering staff.
What you'll need#
- Current student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering Technology, or a related engineering discipline.
- Incoming Junior or Senior year standing.
- Completed at least one course related to fire protection system design or life safety analysis.
- Basic knowledge of building and fire codes and NFPA standards.
- Basic understanding of active and passive fire protection systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Basic skills in REVIT or AutoCAD.
- Ability to write reports and speak in front of others.
- Capacity to collaborate in a project team, follow processes, and accept feedback.
- Experience with Fire Dynamics Simulator, Contam, or Pathfinder is a plus.
