About the role#
The Pharmacy Intern supports the selection, preparation, distribution, and record-keeping of medications for inpatients under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. This position is designed for students to gain practical pharmacy experience while completing their degree, with opportunities to assist in clinical consultations, medication history documentation, and protocol-based medication adjustments.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the accurate dispensing of medications, including filling bins and labels, and restocking automated dispensing cabinets.
- Perform and document medication histories to support safe and effective administration.
- Ensure the timely delivery of medication-related information and products by making designated rounds.
- Participate in departmental operations, such as expiration date checks, inventory cycle counts, and restocking code carts.
- Assist with clinical services, including anticoagulation and methotrexate counseling, and IV to PO medication conversions.
- Maintain current knowledge of pharmacy practice and complete all required departmental competency assessments.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy.
- Active registration as an Intern with the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Fundamental understanding of pharmacy calculations.
- Experience with IV admixture.
- Preferred background in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Health Administration, or Nursing.
