About the role#
The Pharmacy Intern works under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist to assist with the selection, preparation, distribution, and record keeping of medications for inpatients. This position offers students the opportunity to gain practical experience while completing their degree. Interns participate in clinical consultations, medication history documentation, and various safety initiatives to support patient care.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the accurate dispensing of medications by filling bins, processing labels, and restocking automated dispensing cabinets.
- Conduct rounds to ensure the timely receipt and delivery of medication products and information.
- Perform and document medication histories to support safe administration.
- Prepare sterile products through aseptic compounding and labeling.
- Monitor inventory by checking expiration dates and performing cycle counts.
- Assist with clinical protocols, including IV to PO conversions and renal or hepatic function adjustments.
- Complete departmental competency assessments and maintain current knowledge of pharmacy practice.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy.
- Active registration as an Intern with the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Understanding of pharmacy calculations.
- Experience with IV admixture.
- Coursework or background in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Health Administration, or Nursing is relevant to this role.
