About the role#
The Pharmacy Intern supports the selection, preparation, distribution, and record-keeping of inpatient medications under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. This role provides students with the opportunity to gain clinical experience, including medication history documentation, protocol-based clinical consultations, and patient counseling.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the accurate dispensing of medications, including filling labels, restocking automated dispensing cabinets (ADC), and managing medication bins.
- Perform and document comprehensive medication histories and update patient allergy and outpatient pharmacy records.
- Support clinical services by assisting with IV-to-PO conversions and medication adjustments for renal and hepatic function under pharmacist supervision.
- Ensure patient safety by detecting and reporting medication errors, adverse drug reactions, or near misses in the MIDAS system.
- Facilitate the receipt and delivery of patient medication information and products by making designated rounds.
- Participate in inventory management, including expiration date checks, cycle counts, and restocking code carts and emergency kits.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy.
- Active registration as an Intern with the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- A foundational understanding of pharmacy calculations.
- A degree in a related field such as Chemistry, Biology, or Mathematics is preferred.
