About the role#
Space Dynamics Laboratory is seeking student software engineers for the Summer 2027 term. You will join our Strategic and Military Space Division to support national security programs. This role focuses on combining software engineering fundamentals with modern AI tools to accelerate development and solve complex technical problems. You will work on projects involving small satellites, sensor systems, and ground applications.
What you'll do#
- Design, develop, integrate, and test software for aerospace platforms.
- Use AI-assisted workflows to prototype new approaches and build software.
- Develop applications for machine learning, embedded systems, and flight software.
- Conduct software requirements development and effort estimation.
- Perform code analysis, testing, and quality assurance.
- Evaluate and validate software and technical outputs generated by AI.
- Collaborate using standard development environments and team tools.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a junior, senior, or graduate student in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, data science, artificial intelligence, applied mathematics, or a related field.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language, with preference for C++, C#, Python, Java, or TypeScript.
- Experience with AI-assisted coding tools like GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or Codex.
- Ability to debug, test, and improve software regardless of its origin.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and within a technical team.
- U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
- Experience with Python, AI/ML frameworks, Git, Jira, or CI/CD tools is preferred.
- Demonstrated technical curiosity through personal projects, research, or competitions.
