    About the role#

    Space Dynamics Laboratory is seeking a Laboratory Technician Intern to support the Strategic and Military Space Division. This team investigates the Earth's ionosphere and its impact on defense systems. You will work alongside engineers and mentors to develop sensors for real-time signal and data analysis. This is a paid, full-time internship with a rolling start date.

    What you'll do#

    • Provide technical support and assist with equipment installation and maintenance.
    • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment while keeping accurate logs and records.
    • Design and execute testing procedures.
    • Perform data collection and analysis.
    • Build computers and perform soldering.
    • Use basic programming skills to support project goals.
    • Work outdoors to assemble and test equipment regardless of weather conditions.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a degree program for electrical engineering, physics, technician support, or a related field.
    • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
    • Experience working in a lab environment.
    • Basic mechanical aptitude, including drilling, hammering, and cutting.
    • Experience with Linux/Unix operating systems and networking.
    • Familiarity with laboratory test equipment such as digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers.
    • Hardware and computer diagnostic skills.
    • Ability to apply basic principles of electronics and signal processing.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
    • Physical ability to lift over 50 pounds and perform tasks like walking, standing, climbing, and bending.

    Location & details#

    • This role is based on-site at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
    • Occasional travel may be required for equipment installation and maintenance.
    • The position offers 30 or more hours of work per week.
