About the role#
Space Dynamics Laboratory is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Assistant to support the Civil and Commercial Space Division. This position involves hands-on work with space flight hardware, including prototypes, engineering units, and ground support equipment. You will work alongside professionals and other students to contribute to space missions and scientific research. Employment is on a rolling basis and continues until graduation.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the design, analysis, fabrication, and assembly of hardware.
- Support hardware testing and create necessary test procedures and reports.
- Manage parts tracking, kitting, and the creation of drawings and travelers in coordination with Quality Assurance and program teams.
- Present work results to the team.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment at Utah State University in mechanical engineering or a closely related degree with at least two years of school remaining.
- U.S. citizenship or status as a lawful permanent resident.
- Completion of an engineering CAD course with a grade of B or higher.
- Understanding of heat transfer by conduction and radiation.
- Familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to follow instructions, work independently after training, and collaborate within a team.
- Dependability, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain a work schedule.
- Hands-on experience with basic hand tools and measuring equipment.
- Machine shop or fabrication experience and interest in drafting metallic parts are preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: North Logan, Utah.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: 20 hours per week during the school year and up to 40 hours per week during the summer. Availability for graveyard shifts and weekends is required when testing demands it.
- This is a paid position.
