About the role#
Space Dynamics Laboratory is looking for a student to support contamination control activities. You will work in a laboratory environment, handling tasks that range from chemical analysis to the precision cleaning of aerospace hardware. This position is part of our Student Scholar Program, which provides access to technical workshops, outreach activities, and professional networking opportunities.
What you'll do#
- Perform chemical and thermal vacuum laboratory tasks.
- Conduct materials testing, microscopy, and chemical analysis.
- Carry out precision cleaning of aerospace hardware.
- Maintain and stock cleanroom and laboratory supplies.
- Assist with laboratory-wide contamination control efforts.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment at Utah State University in chemistry, physics, or a related field.
- At least one year of school remaining.
- Ability to work 15-20 hours per week during the school year and 30-40 hours per week during the summer.
- Strong aptitude for laboratory work and a commitment to safe practices.
- Ability to apply basic principles of chemistry and physics.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-motivation and the ability to follow through on assigned tasks.
- U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status.
- Completion of general chemistry lecture and lab is preferred.
- Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, reach overhead, and wear Personal Protective Equipment.
