    About the role#

    Space Dynamics Laboratory is seeking an Electrical Engineering Assistant to join our Civil & Commercial Space Division. You will work alongside experienced engineers to support the development, assembly, integration, and testing of mission hardware. This position offers hands-on exposure to electronic hardware and embedded software while contributing to projects in planetary science, Earth observation, heliophysics, and astrophysics. You will work closely with an engineering mentor to develop practical skills and take ownership of your assigned tasks.

    What you'll do#

    • Support Linux-based embedded systems, including system configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and networking.
    • Develop and use Python scripts for data processing, analysis, test automation, and visualization.
    • Assist with circuit design, simulation, hardware assembly, and laboratory test setups.
    • Manage engineering documentation, parts tracking, and configuration management.
    • Participate in engineering reviews, system integration, and hardware deliveries.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and communicate your progress and results.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment at Utah State University in an electrical engineering or related degree program.
    • At least one year of school remaining.
    • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security clearance.
    • Experience or completed coursework in Python programming.
    • Experience using Linux environments and basic command-line tools.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
    • A strong desire to learn and improve.

    Location & details#

    • Location: North Logan, Utah.
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Schedule: 15-20 hours per week during school semesters and up to 40 hours per week during summer.
    • Employment type: Full-time student role.
