About the role#
The Software and Electronics Engineering Group works with research teams across MIT Lincoln Laboratory to build systems for real-world scenarios. You will join our team as a Summer Research Program intern to contribute to the design, development, and testing of software and electronics. Depending on your project assignment, your work may involve embedded or application software, firmware, precision controls, or PCB design.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with experienced engineers through the full development lifecycle, from concept and analysis to prototyping, integration, and validation.
- Engage in hands-on research to support applications like space-based laser communication, biological threat detection, and airborne navigation.
- Participate in professional development opportunities, including workshops, tech talks, and networking events.
- Manage tasks independently and contribute to team goals.
What you'll need#
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Ability to qualify for and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- A self-driven work ethic and the ability to work constructively alone or in teams.
- Strong oral, written, and graphical communication skills.
- Comfort working in a highly computerized environment.
- Ability to interact respectfully with teammates and collaborators.

- Position is based on-site in Lexington, Massachusetts.
- This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027.
- Compensation is based on your highest academic year or degree completed prior to the start date.
