About the role#
The Interceptor and Sensor Technology Group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory offers summer research opportunities for students to work on projects related to space, airborne, hypersonic, rocket, control, and optical technologies. Interns join multidisciplinary teams to support vehicle design, sensor development, and mission analysis. This program provides exposure to national security challenges through hands-on research and mentorship.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with teams on space systems, airborne platforms, and hypersonic vehicles.
- Prototype electro-optical sensors and characterize their capabilities in laboratory settings.
- Conduct mission simulations, modeling, and phenomenology research.
- Develop flight, guidance, and control algorithms.
- Analyze data from field and flight tests.
- Apply image recognition AI or other algorithms to mission data.
- Perform space sensor concept orbit analysis or earth imaging sensor analysis.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a BS, MS, or PhD program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering.
- Programming experience in Matlab, C++, or similar languages.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.
