About the role#
Kiewit Industrial and Water Engineering is hiring a Mechanical Engineer Intern for the summer of 2027. This position is based in our Lenexa, Kansas office. You will help our team design mechanical systems and contribute to project success by maintaining company standards and tools. We look for candidates who can handle various assignments and show a commitment to professional growth.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the design of mechanical systems for industrial facilities, including water and wastewater treatment, pump stations, pipeline conveyance, biogas, and bulk solids material handling.
- Prepare design calculations and equipment specifications for components like pumps, heat exchangers, boilers, conveyors, and tanks.
- Collaborate with team members to prepare and review design deliverables that meet industry codes, contract requirements, and company standards.
- Coordinate with internal and external design partners, including equipment suppliers and construction teams.
- Monitor and review work progress to ensure project goals are met.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor or Master degree program for Mechanical Engineering at an ABET accredited university.
- A GPA above 3.0 is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
- Familiarity with AFT Fathom or AFT Arrow hydraulic simulation software is a plus.
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- Ability to work safely, follow instructions, and interact professionally in a team environment.
- Capacity to work during normal operating hours, with the potential for overtime and weekend work as required.
