About the role#
This internship provides a hands-on introduction to high voltage engineering at the Cofer Technology Center. You will work alongside engineers and technicians to learn how high voltage test setups are designed and built. The role focuses on building a foundational understanding of electrical stresses in insulation systems. You will complete a summer project and present your results at the College Programs project expo.
What you'll do#
- Assist engineers and technicians in planning, assembling, and setting up high voltage test setups in a laboratory environment.
- Learn and follow high voltage safety practices, including safe work procedures, grounding, and the use of personal protective equipment.
- Gain exposure to electrical stresses in insulation systems and how they are measured.
- Prepare test samples and equipment while collecting and organizing test data.
- Document setups, procedures, and observations using lab notes, sketches, and spreadsheets.
- Observe testing to learn how it supports product development and quality.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in engineering or physics, with electrical engineering preferred.
- Sophomore standing is preferred.
- Minimum 2.5 GPA.
- Reliable transportation to and from work.
- A willingness to work hands-on in a laboratory environment and follow all safety requirements.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team and ask questions when unsure.
- Punctuality, dependability, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Introductory coursework or projects in physics, circuits, or electronics is a plus.
