    About the role#

    The Electrical Engineer Co-op role provides hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment. You will work alongside experienced engineers and maintenance professionals to support production operations. This position focuses on applying electrical engineering principles to improve safety, reliability, and productivity. You will be assigned a project at the beginning of the term and present your findings at a project expo.

    What you'll do#

    • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and control system issues on production equipment.
    • Identify root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
    • Gain experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting, specifically with Siemens and Allen-Bradley platforms.
    • Develop, modify, and document ladder logic and control system programs.
    • Create and maintain electrical schematics, specifications, and system documentation.
    • Assist with the installation, startup, and commissioning of new equipment and control system upgrades.
    • Design and implement engineered solutions for electrical and automation projects.
    • Select and apply electrical controls equipment, including motors, drives, relays, sensors, and safety systems.
    • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering, contractors, and vendors to complete projects.
    • Support instrumentation, automation, and SCADA applications.
    • Train operators and technicians on new equipment and control processes.
    • Develop knowledge of industrial electrical systems, power distribution, and motor control.
    • Apply electrical codes and standards, including NEC and NFPA 70E.
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives for safety, quality, and energy efficiency.

    What you'll need#

    • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field.
    • Basic understanding of power distribution, industrial controls, PLCs, HMIs, drives, and communication networks.
    • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
    • Experience with or willingness to learn AutoCAD Electrical.
    • Interest in industrial automation and manufacturing systems.
    • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Effective verbal and written communication.
    • Ability to work independently and within a team.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
    • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
