About the role#
Southwire Company is seeking a Process Engineering Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This program provides students with practical experience by pairing academic studies with project-based work. You will manage a project from start to finish, including setting a timeline and providing progress updates. The internship concludes with a final delivery presentation for senior leadership.
What you'll do#
- Support data collection and analysis to optimize new wire and cable conductor constructions.
- Research standards and specifications to build tools that improve sample analysis efficiency.
- Validate wire and cable constructions using techniques such as Instron tensile and elongation, optical dimensional analysis, resistance bridges, and mass analysis.
- Build models using measured data to support the launch of future products.
- Update process instructions based on validation data.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or Electrical Engineering.
- A minimum GPA of 2.5.
- Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
