About the role#
As a GNC Intern, you will focus on the dynamics and control of a reconfigurable spacecraft composed of electromagnetically docked tiles. Because docking dynamics are highly nonlinear and the vehicle inertia changes as tiles reconfigure, you will help develop models and algorithms that go beyond traditional spacecraft attitude control. You will work directly with the GNC team to see your contributions verified against hardware testbeds.
What you'll do#
- Develop physics models of electromagnetic docking dynamics.
- Support the development of control algorithms for rendezvous, proximity operations, and docking.
- Work on attitude determination and control for individual tiles and the assembled spacecraft.
- Support trade studies and the evaluation of the tile sensor suite.
- Build simulation tools and dashboards to verify GNC algorithms before hardware testing.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related discipline.
- Working knowledge of Python, C++, or MATLAB/Simulink for simulation and analysis.
- Understanding of rigid-body dynamics and basic electromagnetics.
- Experience with spacecraft attitude determination and control, whether through coursework or project teams.
- Familiarity with version control systems like Git.
- Must meet U.S. Government export regulations (ITAR) requirements.
