About the role#
As a GNC Intern, you will focus on the dynamics and control of a reconfigurable spacecraft assembled from electromagnetically docked tiles. Because the docking dynamics are highly nonlinear and the vehicle inertia changes as tiles reconfigure, you will contribute to physics models, control algorithms, and estimation tools. You will work alongside the GNC team to verify your work against hardware testbeds.
What you'll do#
- Develop physics models of electromagnetic docking dynamics.
- Support the development of control algorithms for rendezvous, proximity operations, and docking.
- Work on attitude determination and control for individual tiles and the assembled spacecraft.
- Support trade studies and the evaluation of the tile sensor suite.
- Build simulation tools and dashboards to verify GNC algorithms before hardware testing.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related discipline.
- Working knowledge of Python, C++, or MATLAB/Simulink for simulation and analysis.
- Understanding of rigid-body dynamics and basic electromagnetics.
- Experience with spacecraft attitude determination and control, or familiarity with orbital mechanics and reference frames.
- Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
- Ability to meet U.S. government export regulations (ITAR).
