About the role#
As a GNC Intern, you will focus on the dynamics and control of a reconfigurable spacecraft built from electromagnetically docked tiles. Because docking dynamics are highly nonlinear and the vehicle's mass properties change during reconfiguration, you will help develop physics models and control algorithms that go beyond traditional spacecraft attitude control. You will work directly with the GNC team to build simulations and verify your work against hardware testbeds.
What you'll do#
- Develop physics models of electromagnetic docking dynamics.
- Support the development of control algorithms for rendezvous, proximity operations, and docking.
- Work on attitude determination and control for individual tiles and the assembled spacecraft.
- Support trade studies and evaluation of the tile sensor suite.
- Build simulation tools and dashboards to verify GNC algorithms before hardware testing.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering, physics, or mathematics.
- Working knowledge of Python, C++, or MATLAB/Simulink for simulation and analysis.
- Understanding of rigid-body dynamics and basic electromagnetics.
- Experience with spacecraft attitude determination and control.
- Familiarity with version control systems like Git.
- Ability to meet U.S. government export regulations (ITAR).
