About the role#
The Protected Communication Systems Software Engineering Department in Largo, Florida, is seeking a Software Engineering Intern for the Summer 2027 term. You will join a team developing software across various languages, including Java, JavaScript, and C/C++. This role involves working through multiple phases of the software development life cycle to provide solutions to technical problems across different programs and platforms.
What you'll do#
- Assist and participate in the requirements, design, development, and testing of real-time embedded software, application software, and tools.
- Develop new work products and enhance existing applications and systems.
- Design, code, test, integrate, and document software solutions.
- Participate in internal reviews of software components and systems.
- Collaborate with project managers and other engineering professionals.
- Follow established development practices to maintain configuration management of software products.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or advanced degree program in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related STEM major, continuing through the internship.
- Experience with real-time Java, C/C++ software, Windows and Linux operating systems, GIT, Jira, and Jenkins.
- Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, systems software design, and the software development life cycle.
- Experience developing software in a team-based environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to produce technical documentation.
- A desire to learn new technologies and tools.
- A basic understanding of Software-Systems Engineering skills, including requirements analysis, architecture, design, and software verification and validation.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- An active and transferable U.S. government-issued security clearance is required prior to the start date.
